James Smith
« on: Monday 02 April 18 16:29 BST (UK) »
I have a James Smith (b) 1843 in Kinnell  Parents are George Smith & Mary Edwards.
I have him aged 8 in 1851 cencus .
also think i have him in 1861 Cencus aged 18  living as a boarder in Stonehaven as a bankers clerk (altough it has him born in kinoull ,think its a mistake though).
Now in his fathers will(he died in 1887)it states James  had left for u.s.a over 20 yrs before ,and that they had not heard from James for 12 yrs. which would make it 1875 last heard of .
trying to find what happened to him ,found a possibility.in the New York 1880 cencus........ James Smith born 1843 Scotland,
aged 37,Labourer,west tenth street,PRISONER.
so just thinking could this be him & thats why they never heard from him (as he left for u.s.a with money from father) but perhaps didn't use it properly and ened up in prison ,and didn't want to say.
wonder how i can find out a bit more about this guy .....any hints please ?
thanks
snowolf .
