Annie Heviley - birth & baptismal records, 1887

The birth and baptismal records for Annie Heviley have eluded me for many years. I was always told that her birthday was 19 Oct 1887 and that she was born in Bath. This information is corroborated by the 1939 Register for 33 Bennett St, Garston, Liverpool, where she was living with husband William and family. The 1891C also shows her aged 3 (not 13, as in the transcribed record on Ancestry) b. Bath and living with parents Thomas Heviley, mother Sarah "Heviley" at 7 Great Ann Street, Bristol and family. (Thomas Heviley and Sarah Read were not married until 1915). Similarly, the 1901C for 58 College Street, St Helens, Lancs, correctly gives Annie's age as 13 and place of birth as Bath, and living with her parents.

Can anyone please find Annie's birth or baptismal record? I have tried the GRO with her dob, but without success.

Without these records, I'm guessing the birth was not registered and that she was not required to provide proof either for her marriage in 1915 or for the 1939 Register.

Have you checked to see if she was registered as Annie Read if her parents weren't married?

No Annie/Ann Heviley (and all other variants) or Read (and variants) showing up anywhere. Nothing showing for brother Harry either.

Just a thought - if Thomas and Sarah didn't marry until 1915, perhaps there was a reason and maybe Sarah was already married. In which case her maiden name wouldn't be Read, so maybe Annie was registered with Sarah's maiden name. It's a bit late for no registrations, although not impossible.

Annie wouldn't have to produce proof of age for her marriage or the 1939 register, although she may have needed it it later life.

Yes, I had thought that Sarah was still married to George Read but thanks to wonderful help from other Forum contributions, we now know her previous husband Read died in 1884.  Maybe Sarah left Read before he died, and she did not know he had died, which might explain why Thomas Heviley and her did not marry until 1915. The delay is a mystery, as is the absence of any birth record for Annie.

Sarah Augusta Cole, born Lyneham Jan 1845, bapt St Michael's Parish Church, Lyneham, Wilts 9 Feb 1845. Married George Pannell Read Register Office, Bath, Somerset, June 1866.
