Aramoho Wanganui Cemetery and Newpaper Inquest Look up
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 12:33 BST (UK) »
I would be grateful if there is someone who could take a photo of the grave of Edgar Beech Jones Buried 5th December 1944 at Aramoho Cemetery Wanganui.  The info I have is Edgar Beech Jones age 38 Block R Row 2. I have a map of the Cemetery if it is of help.

Also a second request for a copy of the Coroners Inquest on Edgar Beech Jones attached.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi teddy6 and welcome to RootsChat

It would pay to start another thread with the heading "Wellington Archives look up" for the coroners inquest, include this in the body of the thread

https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ViewFullItem.do?code=23869186

It makes it easier for the looker upper to pre-order the file before visiting,

Cheers Janette

Looking at Paperspast it seems your man may have had a problem with the demon drink and got into a few spots of bother

It may pay to email Gary Gleeson the sexton at the cemetery to check if there is a headstone (He might get a photo for you   ;D

Looking at FindaGrave there is mention of his grave but not photo which may indicate there is no headstone

Hi Janette,
Many thanks for your replies and help.  Boy he did have a problem didn't he.  Thanks for the link to Papers Past.  I had found him in the Police Gazette but not come across him in any newspapers so many thanks.   I would like to see what the inquest has to say because he was killed on the railway line on 4th December 1944.  Not a surprise really now.
I am in the UK and Beech emigrated to Australia in 1924 how he ended up in New Zealand I will never know.  I cannot find much on him.  Would you know of anywhere to look for passengers sailing from Australia to New Zealand by any chance? I will certainly post a new thread about the inquest and contact Gary Gleeson too.  Many thanks for your help, never posted before so this is new to me. Regards Celia in South Wales

Hi Celia,

Looking at the passenger list for the trip to Australia it appears he traveled with a Frederick Jones aged 26 and Frederick's wife Eva aged 22.The UK address was Abbey Hotel,Cwnbran,Mon.Frederick gave his occupation as "haulier" and Edgar's was "blacksmith".Do you know what happened to Frederick?

Unfortunately the outward passenger lists from Victoria to NZ ( available online at www.prov.vic.gov.au) only go to 1923, as you probably know.

There may be a family connection living in Australia using the hyphenated name of Beech-Jones......

For the sake of future reference, the Coroner's Report for Edgar Beech JONES was requested in this separate topic and the images sent.
