My mother has recently taken an 'Ancestry' DNA sample, which I want to activate. She does not have a computer, hence no e-mail.

Can I activate her test on my own 'Ancestry' account and e-mail? (I took a DNA sample a while back)
I intend to do the same for my wife as well, so that also would have to be on my account.
How do I link her results, when they come through, to my existing DNA account.

Thank you

I don't know if you can link results to accounts.

I have access to my father's and husband's results. I just enter their kit number and password.

You can give your email address for both accounts.

I've got her kit number - but do I need to create a separate, new,  Ancestry account for her ? (Is it the password to that you're referring to ?)

Ah I see Huw. Apologies, I was referring to FTDNA rather than Ancestry. :-[

I'm sure someone who has experience with the Ancestry DNA test will be along soon to help you.

At ancestry each tester has to have their own account.

My husband was tested last year, I set up an account for him and activated the test. As he is not interested in family history at all I linked the account to an alternative email address. Then I accessed the results and made myself manager. He is linked to the joint tree.

He appears to others as FW managed by margaretjanew, I send and receive all messages etc.

So your mother and wife will definitely have to have their own accounts, but you can manage them totally.

Thank you. How did you access the results and make yourself the manager ?

I set up the account, my husband had nothing to do with it at all. Gave him a user name, linked it to my Gmail account rather than Hotmail account.

Then went to DNA settings on his new account, top right.

Bottom left, DNA result access
Added myself as manager.

This would work best for your mother, who technically can still revoke you as manager at any time.

For your wife, she may or may not prefer to have more control and set up her own account. She can then nominate you as collaborator or manager in the same way.
