How Much Service To Get An Army Pension pre 1870?
« on: Tuesday 03 April 18 18:37 BST (UK) »
My  Grt Grandfather, Ralph RILEY(RIELLY) born 1830 in Co Meath, is shown in the 1901 census to be an army pensioner.  I have also found that he was in the 81st Regiment of Foot and served in India during the time of the Indian Mutiny 1857/8.  I have a photograph of a relative(Ralph was the only relative to serve in the forces so we assume it is him) in some kind of uniform with four medals showing, one of which looks like the Indian Mutiny Medal. What I would like to know is how long did you have to serve to get an army pension and what medals would Ralph had got for his service?
Fox - Manchester
Archer - Dodworth WRY
Riley, Rielly, Reilly, Keilly - Co Meath
Whitham - England
Cartwright - Anwick, Lincolnshire

It would be better if can put up a picture of his medals so we can take a look.
A pension would be granted if a man was discharged for ill health/injury & the amount would be based on his rank & length of service.

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe
