Convalescence Home Ampton WW1
« on: Wednesday 04 April 18 10:22 BST (UK) »
I have found photos on line, but would be interested to hear more about Ampton as my Father was there after being wounded in WW1.
Thanks

Might be more helpful to you also an e-mail to the parish clerk asking if there is a local historian who can help, might prove fruitful.

Thanks for the link, I have been in touch with Parish council clerk, but they could offer no help,
there are only a few photos at local records office.

There is a Local History Recorder for the parish of Ampton, so worth checking with them.

This is run by Suffolk Local History Council and you can contact the Secretary to the LHRs via the website

From what I can see in the newspapers, Ampton Hall was  a convalescent military hospital from 1915. It was owned by G A Paley, and run in conjunction with the Suffolk Red Cross Society. The Estate was for sale in 1919 - the advertisement has a general description.

The Times  February 18, 1919, Issue 42027, p.18 .
