What is Jane's maiden name, please?
« on: Wednesday 04 April 18 18:40 BST (UK) »
The first attachment is from a Parish Register of Maperton(SOM) 9th February 1724(5) and the transcription shows Jane's name as Jane JEXON. This could possibly be JACKSON, local dialect maybe, as there are a few in this area of Somerset and Dorset. (Groom is Joseph SANDFORD.)

The second and third attachment are from the Marriage Licence, and the transcription is shown as Jane PERER which seems doubtful.

The Latin at the top of the page might be of some use but I can't make sense of it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance.

The name looks like Sexon to me.

Indexed as Sexon here http://www.westcountrygenealogy.com/somerset/maperton/marriages1566.htm

I agree with JenB.  The 33 image clearly shows that it begins with S.

ADDED:

By the way, the second document is a Marriage Bond.

The initial letter of Jane's surname ought to be similar to the initial 'J' of 'Jane' and 'Joseph', if the name is Jexon.  In both cases it looks more like the intial 'S' in 'Sandford'.  Sexon is a possibility.

Many thanks to everyone for this, looks as if it’s SEXON which is something I hadn’t considered, and yes, a marriage bond rather than marriage licence.

Thanks again
