Semple brothers emigration from Northern Ireland to Canada 1920s
« on: Wednesday 04 April 18 20:08 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I've found immigration records into Canada for three brothers from Northern Ireland and can only find one other thing for one of them, his grave.

They were:
Arthur Semple (Jul 1906 - 2000), arrived May 1928 in Quebec
Thomas Semple (Nov 1908), arrived May 1928 in Quebec
Charles Semple (Jul 1902), arrived Jun 1927 in Quebec

I've found Arthur on findagrave with a wife Leta May Dundas.  I don't know when or where they married or if they had any children.

I've tried familysearch and found an entry of a Charles Semple having a child with Rebecca O'Donnell and the infant died a day later.  I can't find a marriage between these two parents.

There is a record of Arthur visiting the USA in 1929 with Charles as his departure contact in Canada so they were all together at some point.

There isn't much for Canada on Ancestry.

I would like to find if they all married, had children and when they died.

Any help much appreciated.  Thank you.
Paul

Donnelly (Collegeland, Armagh/Tyrone)

Hi,

Are these the passenger lists you found?

Is this the Thomas you found, or is there another one that I don't see on the Library and Archives Canada site?  Looks like Arthur and Charles are brothers.   They both say they are going to Canada to be farmers.

I found this ... it is from a Barrie newspaper from 1954.

In a list of guests at a hotel at Minet's point... Mr and Mrs Arthur Semple of St. Catharines and Mr and Mrs Charles Semple of Toronto.

See the 3rd column...

I think this is their son Norman Charles Semple of Kingston.  He passed away very recently.

Wow RK!  You've found loads.  These all seem to be very likely.  Ages at death match year of birth.  Locations are all very close too.

Pity there is no free BMD.

Thank you.  I'll see what else I can find in those locations.

Odd how the immigration for Thomas says going to Uncle Arthur but the obit of Charles says

Quote
Brother of Arthur of St. Catharines and Thomas of Scarborough, Mary Armstrong and Lily Armstrong, both of Northern Ireland.

Lily was my great grandmother so these are the correct people.  I also knew my great great aunt Mary.
