Paterson family emigration & births in USA 1870s

Hi,

Looking for some pointers on finding emmigration records to the USA early 1870s and Birth records for British Subjects born in the USA at that time.

William Patterson (B 1845 - Ironturner)  & Margaret Patterson left Scotland early 1870s, returned before 1881.

George Stephenson Patterson born 1874 & listed as British Subject,United States.
In Scottish Census for 1881

The 1870 Census occurred on 1 Jun 1970 and baby Mary was between 1 and 2 years on 1 Jun 1870 -> i.e. immigration would have taken place between mid 1868 and 1 Jun 1870.

With this information I’m fairly confident that I have found mum Margaret and the 2 kids William and Mary arriving in April 1869 :

Dad seems to have left before them, so it becomes a bit harder to find him without the rest of his family

Unfortunately you haven’t mentioned when baby Mary was born (maybe abt Jan 1868??) so I have no idea how far ahead dad left, and at the moment the only immigration that seems to be a possibility for dad is a 9 March 1868 arrival for a 28y old plumber (Not sure whether this is close enough to an Ironturner? )
