Can anyone find the death of George BENNIE born 1865 Bridgeton
« on: Friday 06 April 18 07:52 BST (UK) »
George Bennie was born 3 May 1865 in Bridgeton, the son of William Bennie and Mary Ann Cook. He was not the George Bennie who died on 13 February 1864 in Bridgeton - this was his older brother.

He was last sighted in the 1929/30 Glasgow directory:
Bennie, Geo (of Wm Bennie and Sons) res Burnbank House, off Sheepburn Rd Uddingston
and the 1932 Electoral Roll at 81 James St Bridgeton with his brother, James

I can't find a death for him in Scotland, England or Australia. All his brothers and sisters died in Glasgow. He was not the informant on his youngest brother, James ' death in 1951.

Where did he go? Any leads gratefully accepted :-)

Have you tried searching for him as Binnie? I have found my Binnys as Benny, Bennie, Binnie, Beny, Beney and various other creative spellings!

Try searching for b*nn* and see if that helps.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Forfarian, thanks for the suggestion - I hadn't tried using wildcards. Lots of interesting results but nothing leapt out at me. I did find a Rennie that looked promising but unfortunately not mistranscribed.

Colin, I did check the Linliththgow one - a perfect fit agewise but sadly not the right parents :-(
