Patrick Carolan baptism
« on: Friday 06 April 18 16:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for the baptism for a Patrick Carolan.

The 1911 census reveals that he was born in County Monaghan and the 1939 register also reveals that his birth date was 15th December 1849.

He can be found in Sunderland in 1871 as a lodger living in Back of Matlock Street with John and Mary Hand, who were both born in Ireland.

He married Mary McNeeney in Sunderland in 1876.

Mary was born in Sunderland and was around 4 years younger than Patrick.

Despite searching for hours, I can't find a birth for her, nor can I find her prior to her marriage. The baptisms of the couple's children (all St Mary's, Sunderland) give her maiden name as McNeeney too.

Patrick died in Sunderland in 1943.
Thanks

Sue

Can you give the details from their marriage certificate - father's name and occupation and her address at the time?

Unfortunately not - I'm trying to avoid buying it, but feel that doing so may be the only way I can identify both Patrick and Mary's parents (or father's at least) positively.
They named their first tow sons, Hugh and John, so I suspect that this may (just may) be their respective father's names.

This one perhaps...

MACINNINE, MARY
Mother's maiden surname: BYRN
GRO Reference: 1852  J Quarter in SUNDERLAND  Volume 10A  Page 356

1851 2398/442/5

Bernard McEneny 30 yrs
Rose McEneny   24 yrs
John McEneny   2 months

Southwick, Durham

1871 5019/26/45

Bernard and Rose McNey with a large family.

The children's births for this family do seem to match with Mary posted above - all with mother's name as BYRN/BYRNE/BURN etc.

Hi

Marriage certificate has arrived!

Mary McNeeney's father was John McNeeney - a labourer, address in 1876 given as Carley Road, Southwick.

Patrick's father was Hugh Carolan (deceased) a labourer.

That’s a shame  :(

Was that address given for both parties? Was there a house number?

Who were the witnesses?
