When Simon married Elizabeth Ha/ollett one of the witnesses was Charlotte Findley. She had been imprisoned ten years earlier (1807) for allowing two bastard children to become dependent on the parish and was given a year's hard labour! She was baptised in 1782 (Oct) as the daughter of William and Ann; but, given that a William Findley (a soldier) had married a Joan Jenkins a few months earlier, and that Jane (1785), James (1789) and Simon (1791) were all baptised as children of William and Joan Findley, Charlotte's entry may be an error.

Simon was a witness at the marriage of William Findley and Ann Bolt in 1817 (see 1821 baptism above), who is almost definitely the William FENLY (bap 1784 s William and Joan), so a fifth sibling.

It does seem that the name was most often given as FIN(D)LEY.

Richard

I want to get the marriage cert of Eliza and John Burden.  As there appears to be a mistake with the transcribing of Finley into Henley or Tunley what will I ask for from the GRO.
I know it is volume 8 page 193. Do I need to say there is an error in transcribing?
Thanks
