« on: Saturday 07 April 18 12:49 BST (UK) »
Hi folk's,I wonder if yet again you can come up trump's on missing Family? My first one is
John Ford Smith, born Buckingham 1825,I have him from 1851-1901(Cencus) in Newcastle
to Gateshead ending up in 1901in St Joseph's Home Newcastle a pensioner,no indication of
his death and as his middle name was not always used difficult to trace a death(the curse of
the Smith name).Second is Robert Watson, born Gilling West c1826.I have Robert around the
region and found him in Benwell with his daughter Mary Ann Duke in the 1911 Cencus at a healthy
81 year's.again noluck with what happened to him.I wondered if anyone can help and assuming
they were buried in their last location's shed any light?
Regard's Steve Smith.

Personally I think that's him so I need to find a death notice and possible burial place which
hopefully will be in the Chronicle,John is more difficult as there are a few more probable's
that and the fact the rest of the family which was fairly large were in Gateshead,Lydia his wife
was buried in Gateshead East.
 Many thank's,Steve.

Evening Chronicle - Monday, July 7 1913

'WATSON.- AT (198?) Buddle Road (the residence of his son-in-law, J. A. (Duke?) on the 5th inst., Robert Watson, late of Middlesbro, aged 83 years. To be interred at Benwell, on Wednesday, July 9th at 3 p.m.; lift at 2.30.  Friends please accept this intimation.'

I have put in brackets words which are not entirely clear.

Best Wishes :)

Amendment: Bigger magnifier showed son in law was called 'Duke'.

Librarian suggested looking in Elswick Cemetery register for burial (to find plot) - I did but Robert is not there. :-\

However, I notice that there are St Joseph Home burials at this cemetery.

A man sitting next to me has just suggested St James, at Benwell.

Tyne and Wear Archives may have this - I think they do.

I would have looked for you this week but work and family commitments won't permit.

Two men next to me at the Newcastle library have just told me that St James Church, Benwell is usually open on a Saturday and members of the public can go and look at the records.

It might be worth checking out with the Church about this.

That's interesting River Tyne Lass that your libraries are open on a Sunday, none around here open then.

Newcastle City library (the big one in the city centre) is open on a Sunday 11 am - 4.  So is South Shields library (one near the ferry landing).

No North Tyneside libraries open on Sunday.

I saw your post on here yesterday giving death registration and when Steve confirmed that he thought this was his Robert I thought it would be worth trying to look this up for him.

The two men in the library seemed both quite convinced that Robert will be at St James.
