Duplicate names on Ancestry tree
« on: Saturday 07 April 18 17:13 BST (UK) »
Something has gone wrong on my Ancestry tree, I suddenly noticed some of my direct ancestors  have been duplicated, and when I tried to merge them their names don't actually appear as duplicates when they are clearly visible twice on the tree. Does anyone know how to remedy this, I really don't wish to delete the names and start adding them all over again as there is far too many. I am also pretty sure this is Ancestry's fault an not mine!

Personally I'd take it as yet another glitch and leave well enough alone for the moment, see if it rectifies itself!

It is a quirk of the Ancestry programming. If cousins (for example) marry then the grandparents will often appear in the visual tree twice but if you check the list of people in your tree they will (or should) only appear once. There is an Ancestry video on youtube which shows this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FzleOlSx0Y
topic at about 9mins into video.
The explanation given is that the tree would look horrible with crossed lines everywhere and almost impossible to programme.

The only stupid question is the one not asked

BERRY; Lancs.
BORASTON; Salop, Worcs,
TYLER; Salop, Herefords.
