Help with writing on 1861 Census please
« on: Sunday 08 April 18 17:43 BST (UK) »
I have been looking for my ancestor Thomas Metcalf b1817 on the 1861 Census. He is there with his wife Elizabeth.
He is living in Lombard Street Sunderland but there is some writing I just can not make out.

It says From 23 to 29 is Joshia Wilsons ?????houses

Any ideas please?

Think you're right - it does look like that.

Lombard Street runs north-south just left of centre on this map

You can see there are several warehouses marked on it.

Thank you very much. Think you're right with Wharehouses - Warehouses.

So they lived at No. 23 Lombard St which was next to the 'Wharehouses'.

Thank you for the map.
The vase of daffodils looks very springlike - If only the warmer spring weather would come here in the UK.

Thank you for all the information everyone has sent.  :)
They must have lived right next to the Warehouses. I know they were there in 1847 and 1861 but had gone by the 1871 Census.

Getting more spring like today here in the South of England. Lovely spring flowers on the photos.
