Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me reads this Scottish Birth Record, it's fairly neat handwriting, there's just a few things I'd like to clarify if anyone can help?

My transcription:

19 July
ROSS
David Ross serv ??(not sure what this town name is - I'm guessing it's near Huntly, Aberdeenshire) had a son by his wife Jane Gordon baptised and named William. Witnesses James Gordon and Alex Churtie??.

Think the surname is Christie.

The place looks like Cromarty but that's not in Aberdeen - will have another look on a bigger monitor.

add - is it Canicray  :-\

Definitely think you're right about the surname being Christie, looks like there is an 's' in there now that you say it! Thanks!

There's a Cantray but that's near Inverness, not Aberdeen.

There's a line above where I  thought the i and c are  that could well be a crossed t . I've had a look at nls old maps but can't see anything so far.

I guess if David was a servant, is it possible that he moved to Huntly to work?
The other possibility if that the town is somewhere near Montrose (apparently where this Ross family originated according to family stories but unverified as yet).

The other place names on the page are Huntly and Long Hill, not sure if that's helpful at all?

I wonder if it's a mispelling/soundex of "Comisty".
