Lost Baptism
« on: Monday 09 April 18 12:23 BST (UK) »
Hi wondered if any one can help. I am looking for the birth or baptism of a Mary Bamford/Bamforth around 1826 - 1830. Her father was a Samuel Bamford born Tideswell Derbyshire 1792 and lived in Sheffield, her mother Susan, on the census she says she was born in Middlesex and on some she was born in Sheffield Thanks Babs W

Earlier post on Samuel & Susan indicates Samuel died 1850 & Susan 1851

Where do you have Mary on census

Copied from earlier post
1841 Radord St Sheffield
Saml Bamford 42 file cutter y
Susan 40 y
Alfred 15y
Mary 14 y
William 10 y

There is a daughter Eliza baptised at Sheffield 14 th May 1837 but no sign of that marriage or baptisms for the older children.

I see that there are pertinent questions on the other thread as to how a positive link has been made between the Mary Bamforth who married Sidney Pashley in 1851 aged "21", and the Samuel & Susan Bamford family identified in Sheffield in 1841 with a Mary aged 14.

Susan's burial helps:

Susan Bamford aged 58 of Daisey Walk [sic] was buried at St George's Sheffield, 12 Dec 1851.

It appears from the other thread that Mary's address at marriage earlier that year had been 59 Daisy Walk.

Unfortunately in 1851 there is a gap in the census enumeration where 59, 61 and 63 Daisy Walk should be.

Schedules run as follows:

309: 51 Daisy Walk
310: 53 Daisy Walk
311: 55 Daisy Walk
312: 57 Daisy Walk
313: 65 Daisy Walk
314: 67 Daisy Walk

Census ref: HO107/2339/531/77.

The son Alfred also says he was born in London in at least one census (1861) when he is - presumably mistakenly - enumerated under the Brownhill surname of his in-laws (marriage to Ann Brownhill was 1852).
