Dutton Wedding Certificate 1816
« on: Monday 09 April 18 13:08 BST (UK) »
Marriage Certificate

Job Dutton
Sophia

17 March 1816
Holy Trinity Clapham
Lambeth London

Questions:

(1) This photocopy of Wedding Certificate suggests brides Maiden Name to be DUTTON same as grooms last name. Is this likely or would experience tell you this is wrong ? Can anybody help search brides maiden name for clarification.

(2) In the presence of ............?

Top line > I can read 'Dutton' as surname - any more help?
Second line >   ?  Arnold    Anna Maria (?) Dutton ??
Third Line > ? Dutton

Ideally I am looking for parents details from this certificate to progress line.

I have that Job and Sophia had 9 children the eldest I have as Anna Maria 1817 which leads me to read same on possible witness ie naming child same as parent.

Any thoughts, links or suggestions welcome.

Thanks

There is a baptism of a Sophia Charlotte Dutton 21 Oct 1795 at St Mary, Newington
Parents Huddard & Ann.  Huddard would match one of the witnesses  ;D

The first one is Hudd Dutton - most probably Huddard Dutton as Rosie suggests
Then Thos Arnold and Anna Maria (could be a longer name) Dutton
Then W Dutton.

Could  the middle name be Marianne or Marion. It's a bit long for Maria  :-\

Great :). I will review these - and thanks.

As a Dutton appears to have married a Dutton - do I presume the name was quite common around London ? Ie I presume not family !?

I am new to older style notation. Did the parish notation normally abbreviate names with first three letters then a small or is it something like a form of 'latin' or similar.

Happy with the info - Point above I ask just out of interest :)

I thought it was an 'Ma' then ? with an 'ia' at rear so potentially would make sense. I will search more on those variations :)
