There is no registered death for a James Relton (born in 1846 to William and Hannah and lived in Huntingdonshire in 1861)

I think he may have, therefore, died in the Boer War around 1900...

There is a death recorded (Ancestry) for:

J Relton - 4690
30 November 1900 at Kroonstad
Private with the South Africa Field Force, 1st Battalion, West Riding Regiment
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

There is no further information.  However, perhaps if you contact the West Riding Regiment Museum, they may have more information.

FindMyPast say that he is mentioned on two memorials:

Duncombe Place, York - an Edwardian Cross
All Saints Chapel, York Minster - Duke of Wellington Regiment plaque

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The James Relton who died in 1900 had the Service Number 4690, his Service record shows he was born 1877 in Bradford, Yorkshire. Therefore not your James Relton.
