Hi,
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Her fathers birth certificate does not have his fathers name on it. Since my father in law passed away some years ago he's no longer around to ask questions to but we think he knew relatively little about his father. I do believe my mother in law still has a photo tucked away somewhere but doesn't want my wife or her sister to see it any time soon.
Cutting a long story short, it seems my wife's grandfather and grandmother had a bit of a whirlwind romance. He knew he was in the Scots Guards and we think he may have been either visiting or stationed in Windsor where my Wife's family are from, at the time of the relationship with her Grandmother.
We only had the name Eugene Iliffe to go by. and found details of a Eugene T W R Iliffe in the Scots Guards Band based at Wellington Barracks, London and the early 30's and made a trip to Canada at the same sort of time for the Canadian National Expo. It's quite a rare name in relative terms so was easy to trace backwards but is proving very difficult to trace forwards of that point, other than his death that is.
... Just caught up with the other comments too - thank you for taking the time to look for me, we already have most of the info but not about him living in Coventry? I'll look that one up!
