I can't find any Garside's with the occupation puddler they all seem to be file smiths / cutters a lot from Oughtibridge i have had a look at sheffield indexers births.

I did get Ann Garside wrong earlier She didn't marry William Sheldon She married a George Wood

1851 census Sheffield
George Wood head 30 Ecclesfield file maker
Ann Wood Wife 28 Ecclesfield
Elizabeth Garside 19 Sister in law Oughtibridge

1861 census Sheffield Heavy Gate Road
George Wood 40 Ecclesfield File maker
Ann wood wife 38 Ecclesfield
Alice Wood daughter 8 Sheffield

Neither can I.  Most, if not all the south Yorkshire puddlers seem to live in the Rotherham area.  I wonder if her father died before any online census returns and her mother remarried, in which case she could be on census pre - marriage under a step father's surname.

Thats what i'm thinking , I think i have found the Sarah Garside in Durham in 1851

1851 Census Durham crossgate
Sarah Garish 19 servant Sheffield
living with Ann Dixon and family

There is a John Faries in the Ecclesfield area who is foreman / manager in iron works when his children have been baptized at Ecclesfield his occupation has been moulder he has a Sarah the right age .

If she is in the workhouse pregnant and she has a sister near by perhaps her family have disowned her , where was she walking home to when she was assualted she must live in or near by Ecclesfield.

I have her son Henry's birth certificate and her maiden name is showing Garside.

might be on to something found a Harriet Garside living in the 1841 census with the greaves family in Ecclesfield.
In 1841 Rotherham a Harriet Garside married a John Greaves
1851 1861 1871 they lived in Ecclesfield they had the following children
Edward b 1845
John b 1847
Mary Ann b 1850
Polly b 1852
walter b 1856
Bertha b 1863

John Greaves that married Harriet works at the iron works

There is a Harriet Garside baptized April 18th 1824 Sheffield Parish Church parents Mary and John a Labourer

Think my next move is to order Harriet and John's marriage certificate

Yes found a connection Bertha Greaves married a George Chapman in 1881 and in the 1881 census Bertha and George are living with John and Sarah Oxley so Sarah and Harriet are sisters.
