Can't find 1871 census
« on: Tuesday 10 April 18 15:11 BST (UK) »
I have a married couple; Harriet Kelsey (b1842, Bethnal Green) and William West (b1844, Spitalfields); they married in 1864.

Children followed, all baptised in Saint Stephen, Spitalfields;

William 1865,
Ann 1865
Alfred Joseph 1870
George Dec 1871

For each of these baptism, the abode changes, but is always in Shoreditch or Bethnal Green.

Come 1881, I have a nice census for the family, in Spitalfields.

But, despite this continuous record, I cannot find a 1871 census for them.

Can anyone help?

What is the family's address on the 1870 baptism and the 1871 baptism, and have you checked those addresses in the 1871 census?

1870 - Princes Court, Tyssen St, Bethnal Green
1871 - 14 Garden Plc, Orange St, Bethnal Green

Sadly (for me) I use ancestry, so looking up a census by address is very painful.

1871 census

14 Garden Place   John and Jane Smith and family plus Joseph and Elizabeth Jones.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
