Opinions on cause of death

Yes, I posted this first for opinions on the word, and then that thread second for opinions overall. I don't usually double-post threads

I have the death certificate of an 11-month-old boy who died in New South Wales in 1883.  The cause of death is recorded as 'dentition', duration 'several weeks'.  The local doctor had attended a few days prior to the death, and he didn't suggest any other cause.
