I am looking for info on Hugh McTaig/Tigue born Co Mayo around 1826 parents names unknown.  He married Sarah Taylor in England and it looks like he is a widower with 2 children on the 1871 census for Port Glasgow  He may have died in Co Mayo in 1883 would really appreciate any help in finding him

Many thanks

Janie

If he's wed in England then the marriage certificate will provide some parental information.

In Scotland with kids in 1871?
What info is on their birth certificates?

I have one little comment to make here: do keep in mind the possibility that the name may have been mistranscribed as McTighe at some point. I have spent many years trying to find the marriage of one of my Tighe ancestors and it turned out he had been listed in the PRs as Tigue.

Hello,
Is this him - transcribed
Hugh McGige 49 yrs b Ireland
Catherine McGige 6yrs b Port Glasgow
John McGige 4yrs b Port Glasgow

Do you have Sarah Taylor from their birth registrations?
Do you have Sarah’s death?
Why do you think they married in England?
Why do you think he died in Mayo?
And lastly - sorry for all the questions- where are the children after this sighting?

Regards
Heywood

Hi Janie,
I just found this thread from your pm. I wasn’t sure at first which search you meant but found it here.
It would be good to know what you have found. I spent quite some time searching Scottish indexes plus English and Irish records for anything  to help.
Rounding up the thread can help other future searchers (for the same name etc) and also stops rootschatters from searching unnecessarily.
I hope my questions haven’t put you off but all information does help  :)

Regards
Heywood
