Hit a Wall and not sure where to go.
« on: Wednesday 11 April 18 19:11 BST (UK) »
Not sure how to go forward finding information on great grandfather and his family.

William (Wilhelm) Holzhausen born April 5, 1860 in Germany.
Married Friederike Krause in Wisconsin on November 16, 1888.
Lists his parents as Gotfriest and Couise (Louise?) Holzhausen on marriage cert.
Died in Wisconsin on November 30, 1897

His death certificate lists his parents as William & Christina Holzhausen

I know of his children but nothing back in Germany.

I cannot find him on any US Census as not sure when he came to the US.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome to rootschat, racer787.

Could you just say which sites you have used to try to find out more information about them, including any censuses?

Thank-you.

Thank you.

I have used Ancestry and FamilySearch.

I have found a US Naturalization Record for a William Holzhauser
with a birth date of 1860, not sure if this is him or not, that says he
arrived in 1883.

Wisconsin had census' done in 1895 and 1905 but I think I read that
alot of the 1895 census may have been lost. So I cannot find him on
either.  My William Holzhausen died in 1897. I have found nothing on
1870, 1880 and on in US census.

Maybe I'm just not searching right.  Not sure if that is the information you mean or not.

Hello

I have not looked at any German records, but here is some very general information on Church Records and links

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Germany_Church_Records

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Finding_Aids_for_German_Records#Finding_the_Civil_Registry_Office

Due to conflicts, bear in mind some towns may no longer be in Germany?

Wilhelm Holzhausen Married Friederike Krause,
Waukesha, Wisconsin on November 16, 1888.

Lists his parents as Gotfriest Holzhausen and Couise Holzhausen.

According to Family Search the Spouses Parents are also given:-
Wilhelm Krause
Carolette Krause

His death certificate lists his parents as William & Christina Holzhausen

I'm afraid the marriage does not seem to match?

Bear in mind online transcriptions may be missing and occasionally incorrect (when you look at the official Indexes), or not contain the full information, which is on the actual Certificate Copy.

All the best, Mark

Thanks for all the information. I will see if I can find anything on that.

Not sure why the marriage certificate and the death certificate lists parents with two different names.

Hi racer787, welcome to Rootschat  :)

What was his occupation on the marriage certificate?

The marriage certificate does not list an occupation but the death certificiate lists it as Teamster, street sprinkler.

And while we are at it, on which records can his children be found (give a link and reference)

They are all listed on the 1900 US Census - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMV5-KF6

Otto Walter - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRZL-YVR

Walter - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRZ1-VFD

William - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRYF-32T

Helmuth - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRV4-N28

Helene - www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRVD-YLS

Thanks again for all the help. I truly appreciate it.
