There is a baptism at St Leonards, Colchester for Thomas Garland on 8 Oct 1775, s/o Thomas and Sarah. Also Rhoda Garland at same place to same parents on 29 Dec 1778. Could be Thomas who named a daughter after his sister.

In 1841 there is an Alan Garland with a Lydia of similar age so likely to be wife in East street Colchester. There is a marriage for Alan Garland to Lydia Rogers at St James Colchester on 3 April 1831. One witness was Rhoda Garland. This looks like the Alan bapt in G juxta C. The family must have moved to Colchester, there is a Thomas Garland b abt 1775 living East Street in 1851

Must have been an error by the paper or the informant. Thomas Garland bachelor married Sarah Hardy spinster at St Mary at the walls in 1766 on 29 Jan. He was of the parish of St Botolph in ?.... He made his mark, Sarah signed. One witness was John Garland who also made his mark. Marriage by licence
