railway or bus ?
« on: Thursday 12 April 18 08:39 BST (UK) »
Hello , I thought this might be an interesting subject . My relatives had to attend a funeral in Exeter area in 1915 , they had to travel from South Molton . I wondered whether they went by rail or bus ? It was pre Dr Beeching obviously .
Any answers or suggestions very welcome .
Regards
Alan

Good morning,

South Molton had a station on the north Devon line. So they could have gone east then turned south into B****** (forgotten name). Down to Tiverton and on to Exeter.

Then bus to final destination if available. It was early days for long distance rural bus journeys.

Not sure about wartime travel but the 1922 Bradshaw shows a train from South Molton(9.25) to Barnstaple Jct (9.58)and change there for Exeter St Davids (10.07) arr 11.43

The was another railway journey via Dulverton and change there for Exeter St Davids but few and far between.

Thank you both , I like the sound of South Molton to Dulverton and change for Exeter as that would have gone through and stopped at their destination of brampford Speke .
