I'm thinking the OP has all the information on the family, other than sightings of Elias in VIC.

I am overwhelmed by all the helpful advice and family data and very grateful.
It does seem, as Jamjar states, than sightings of Elias G. Emmett.  Did he have any children with Elsie Kate, or maybe one of the daughters mentioned is his.  Elsie was older than him and maybe it was just too late.  We shall see.
This all started because I found a photograph of George Emmett sitting in a car.

It is interesting to see how Elsie Kate records her age over the  years.

1891 census as Mrs DEGENHARD birthdate 1870ish
1901 census birthdate 1873ish
1912 on the shipping list with EMMETT birthdate 1876ish
At death birthdate 1878

I have not seen a definite birth or baptism for her so do not know her parents' names. Perhaps you have the marriage certificate for one or both her marriages which would give the details.

A quick look about and some guesswork makes me think it might have even been a couple of years earlier than 1870. :-X.

So I think your supposition that her child-bearing years were passed is likely.

I see Elias EMMETT aged 4 months in 1881.

I think it is fairly certain the daughters were both DEGENHARDs.

One girl, as you know, came to Australia and the other, Emily, married in England aged 21, in 1910, before the EMMETTS left for Australia. She can be located there as ABBEY.

Here is the photo I have of Elias George Emmett that Matthewj64 suggested I post.  Can't tell make.

Funniy enough, I had two 1926 Hudson Super 6s.  One had an extended Walter J. Murphy body.  Both were destrpyed in a bush fire.
