Passenger lists- Ireland to Uk
« on: Friday 13 April 18 13:44 BST (UK) »
Hi all
I am wondering where I could possibly find passenger lists for some releatives that were born in Ireland but got married in UK in stockton in 1864. I am not sure if they travelled together or separate.

Also would the passenger lists have details of hometowns/addresses?

I am searching for Ann Mcgrath b. abt 1844 and John mcqueeney/mcquin b. abt 1843
I believe they are from Roscommon area Boyle, but I am trying to find exactly where abouts they lived.

Thankyou

Jo

Have you traced them through the censuses? You might be lucky and find that their place of birth in Ireland is given.

Their Stockton marriage certifcate should tell you both father's names and occupations, which will take you back a generation and may help you find the families in Ireland. It may be that the parents moved from Ireland too, so you may also find them on censuses.

Just bear in my that such travel was within the UK rather than "to" the UK. Obvious I know, but often overlooked. No different than travelling from Glasgow to Birmingham. If they had married in Ireland they would still have been married in the UK.

As others have said there is no passengers lists between the islands of Britain and Ireland then or now, same way as there are no lists which document people traveling anywhere within any country.

It is never an easy job finding where in Ireland someone came from especially at the time when you are looking, as in Ireland it is pre civil registration, with no or very limited remnants of census..... so check out all and any 'visitors' on UK census to their home, check to see if any of who you are looking for wrote a Will as that might give inheritance to some family who continued to live in Ireland so may give you a clue as to where they came from.
It might be a clue what they named their children first 2 males after each of their fathers and first 2 females after each of their mothers and possible any others after their siblings...only a clue but may help for searching any baptism records you look at

I agree with all that has been said.
Their fathers’ names should be on the marriage certificate and sometimes the witness’ names can help.
Church records are sometimes annotated with place of origin.
