BM/BHB2, London
« on: Friday 13 April 18 14:32 BST (UK) »
Clara Martin, 1874 to 1958 was a writer who for at least the last twenty five odd years of her life lived in Exmouth, Devon. But in her entries in directories during that period she gives her address as BM/BHB2, London.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what the address represents?

Thanks
John

Was she Clara Isabelle Martin - and have you found her in the 1939 Register?

Also, have you looked for her in London Electoral Rolls in case she was registered as a voter there?

British Monomarks used to (maybe still does) run a private equivalent of a PO Box for organizations that wanted a London postal address.  The addresses were always "BM something, London".  Then presumably BM forwarded the mail to the subscriber's actual address for a fee per item.

You got your own British Monomark for an annual subscription of 5s. or £2 12s 6d for life. The firm started in November 1925.
