Look for a match for the husbands full name with the mothers shown maiden name. Doesnt always work as the mother may have been married before.

I am trying to find the name of the mother on a birth certificate that was registered in Stoke-On-Trent. The child was born on 13 April 1928. I know the full name of the father but the index only gives me the mother's maiden surname. Would the registrar have also written the mother's full name i.e her first name or names and where she lived or would they have only recorded her maiden surname?
