LEWIS John Michael Hardwicke 1919 - 1999
« on: Friday 13 April 18 23:38 BST (UK) »
JMH Lewis was in the Royal Engineers in Singapore at the time of its fall in February 1942 but got away and escaped to Ceylon via Sumatra.  He later rose to be a Major General and retired in 1975. he died in 1999 and is buried in Frimley, Surrey.
I have a fair amount of information from London Gazette, Ancestry and FindMyPast but I am looking for an obituary or anything that describes his military career in more detail.  The only thing I have found on his escape is an article on the FEPOW site concerning the 18th Division Engineers where he is mentioned.
Any help gratefully received!
