Barnett family, St Pancras
« on: Saturday 14 April 18 17:17 BST (UK) »
I have Thomas Barnett and family in the 1841 census, however am having difficulty finding any other trace of them other than that one census record.

1841 Census - Little George Street, St Pancras, Somers Town, piece 685, book 11, folio 10, page 14

Thomas Barnett, 1804, Carman, born in county
Mary Barnett, 1809, born in county
Mary Ann Barnett, 1832, born in county
Thomas Barnett, 1839, born in county
James Darvill, 1823, engineer j, born in county

I have found James Darvill who is listed with them in 1841 with no problem. Any help locating any of the Barnetts appreciated.

Hi Keyboard86

Yes, it could be that's what has happened re marrying. Is frustrating they are being so elusive to find.

Thank you very much for the marriage and birth information. Another line to pursue.

Yes, beginning to look like Thomas must have died too, haven't had any luck in the census records for him.

I see three Thomas Barnett's who died St Pancreas between 1841- 1851 plus a few others around London/Middlesex. So you can always research those and see if you can find a burial and see if that gives further information.

Although my first thought was did they migrate somewhere especially if you can't find any of them even if they or one of them later returned...

I did check some passenger ship lists but each time wrong spouse name and of course traveling to somewhere like Ireland would not show travel there or return, however Ireland is an unlikely place to go at that time in history although with a name like Cullen there could well be an Irish connection.

Hi iluleah

Many thanks for your reply and taking the time to have a look. I think I will have to check out those deaths and see if anything comes up.

A baptism of Thomas James Barnett, 14 Oct 1838, at St George Bloomsbury.
Born 14 Sept
Parents Thomas and Mary Ann
Abode Ashby St Kings Cross (which is St Pancras)
Father a Jeweller, whereas the one in Little George Street in 1841 was a Carman.

Why are you looking for the Barnett family?

Thanks for the baptism information. I believe there is a connection between the Barnett family and my Darvill family.

Thomas Barnett is a witness to Henry Darvill's marriage in 1846 at St Pancras Old Church. Henry is brother to the James Darvill listed with the Barnetts in the 1841 Census.

There is also a Sarah Barnett witness to one of my other Darvills marriage in 1826. I've been trying to work out if there's an actual family connection between them (rather than they're just friends/neighbours etc.)
