Hi I believe Agnes was born 1831/2 Sandy, in 1841/51 she is with her mother Lucy, and brothers Ebenezer and William, Henry & Agnes have 1 child Walter Martin in 1853 Biggleswade, in 1861 he is shown as Nephew aged 8 to a Jesse Danniels and Mary Ann Danniels.

Agnes Martin died Sept qtr 1856 Biggleswade aged 25 possibly in childbirth, as their is a Male Martin birth in Sept qtr 1856 3b 313 Biggleswade mmn Marshall.

Henry Martin b c 1832 is with his new wife in 1861/71 in 1871 his son Walter aged 18 is with the couple.
Henry Martin married Emma Haynes Dec qtr 1857 Bedford 3b 791.

Entry here for the marriage on familysearch: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N2L8-KJS
is this where your info comes from?

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Agnes Martin died Sept qtr 1856 Biggleswade aged 25 possibly in childbirth, as their is a Male Martin birth in Sept qtr 1856 3b 313 Biggleswade mmn Marshall.

Looks like the childbirth suggestion is right, as the Male Martin also dies in the Sept Qtr of 1856. Exactly the same ref no as that for Agnes.

From FreeBMD:

Martin, Agnes; Sept Qtr 1856; Biggleswade Reg Dist; Volume 3b Page 186.
Martin, Male; Sept Qtr 1856; Biggleswade Reg Dist; Volume 3b Page 186.

As mentioned in my first reply (reply2) I shall check the burial/ cemetery records for both at Biggleswade Library on Wednesday.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

In view of above also that 'Henry' appears as William Henry Martin in 1851 (born 1830/31 Barston (Beeston!) & living in Sandy, there is this marriage:

From FreeBMD:

Martin, William Henry to Franklin Emma; March Qtr 1860; Bedford Reg Dist; Volume 3b Page 497.

Not seeing the marriage on the site that johnP-Bedford linked to though, may have been a Register Office wedding.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys
many thanks for the quick response and the info.
I was working backwards from the marriage of Emma Franklin to William Henry Martin and wondered if I had the right man when he married as Henry Martin - if you would be so kind, David, to check Biggleswade transcripts that would be a great help, thanks.

Hi Helen,

The transcribed records unfortunately only went up to 1812. However, they did have the original registers on microfiche. I looked on these and found the following:

St Andrew's Church, Biggleswade
23rd September 1851

Henry Martin; Full Age; Bachelor; Gardener
Agnes Marshall; Full Age; Spinster

Both of Biggleswade.

Groom's Father: Joseph Martin; Shoemaker
Bride's Father: There was no name or occupation shown.

Witnesses: Eleanor Marshall & Mary King.

I checked the Biggleswade cemetery records, also the burial records for Biggleswade & found nothing in either. I tried to check the burials in Sandy as well, as they had been living their prior to marriage, but the bottom half of the fiche covering the year in question was a very dark grey & all but unreadable unfortunately.

I did however find some baptisms for both the Martin & Marshall families in Sandy.

St Swithun's Church, Sandy.

16th July 1827 - Mary Anne Marshall to William & Lucy Marshall; William a Labourer; Abode Sandy.
25th Dec 1829 - Ebeneezer Marshall to William & Lucy Marshall; William a Shepherd; Abode Sandy.
18th Apr 1830 - Agnes Marshall to William & Lucy Marshall; William a Shepherd; Abode Sandy.
20th Apr 1834 - William Marshall to William & Lucy Marshall; William a Labourer; Abode Sandy.
20th Apr 1834 - Agnes Marshall to William & Lucy Marshall; William a Labourer; Abode Sandy.

St Swithun's Church, Sandy.

7th Feb 1830 - William Henry Martin to Joseph & Mary Martin; Joseph a Shoemaker; Abode Sandy.
5th May 1833 - Fanny Martin to Joseph & Mary Martin; Joseph a Shoemaker; Abode Sandy.

The above is not all the children, just the ones that I spotted.

I also have the marriage details for the marriages of both William Henry Martin's parents & Agnes Marshall's parents. Would you like to have the details of these marriages?

Hope this all helps.

Kind regards

David
