Col John Mount Batten

Col John Mount Batten  was Lord Lieutenant of Dorset' and lived at Up Cerne. A book titled 'Tributes of the memory of Col John Mount Batten, Lord Lieutenant of Dorset 1905-1916' was published. The tributes were not just from the high and mighty but by his servants and estate workers. The Dorset History Centre does not have a copy and I would like to know where a copy is held or where I can find out the names of the estate workers and servants. I would also like to know if any of the estate properties are shown?

Have you checked any census records for Up Cerne? Servants and possibly the estate workers could be easy to identify.

The Dorset library service might be able to find the book.

Many thanks. My relative George Foot was woodman/gamekeeper and a number of his 15 children worked for the Batten Estate at Up Cerne. I would be interested to know what they said about their employer. George spent his latter years  sitting with the Col in the garden of Up Cerne Manor passing the time of day.

I did wonder but assumed if a one off that someone in the family would have wanted to keep. I will give it a try and have also written to Winchester, his old school.
