I did send for the birth certificate of Alfred Frederick Young in Bethnal Green but it is not the one we are looking for. I also sent for the Death Certificate for Fred Young in Winnipeg, died in 1912 hoping to get a place of birth but all it states is England.

I think these snippets from the British Newspaper Archives refer to the Frederick Young death you mentioned? Perhaps someone with a sub. could post the full articles for you (if you blow them a kiss!!)

??? Puzzled, if the marriage certificate in 1908 Winnipeg only indicates the mother of Alfred Frederick Young as Margaret, why could he not be the illegitimate son of a Margaret Young, or was a fathers name also shown?

EDIT if Frederick from the newspaper report was b c 1853 and resident of Bradford upon Avon, then their is a likely Frederick occ Labourer with a father John on census,  The Ann with Frederiick aged 7 in 1891 had a husband William.

Hi all, I have been attempting to assist via PM, the marriage in 1908 Winnipeg has fathers name Frederick but crossed through, from my research this family did not have a son Frederick or if illegitimate, a daughter Margaret?

This is 1891 with Ann and Grandson Frederick.

Ann Young 78 Widow b Littlehampton, Sussex
Frederick 7 Grandson b Battersea
RG12/1606/58/2

1881 census

William Young 70 b Wilts
Ann 67 b Sussex
James H 10 Grandson b Middlesex
RG11/2051/51
James H was born March qtr 1871 Chelsea mmn Tanner
James Young married Emily Tanner June qtr 1861 Chelsea

Family in 1851 census:-

William Young 39
Ann 38
James 14
Elizabeth 12
John 10
George 7
Sarah 4
Eliza 1
HO107/1841/355/7

So it would appear one of these children in 1884 had a son Frederick in Battersea unless I have missed something?!

Also.. besides wanting to know Who the parents are...Why did Ann whisk Fred away to Canada to her married daughter Eliza (Young) Mizen in Winnipeg? Ann had many married children that could have taken him in?

OK now we have a possible link to the Wiltshire family, so what information have you of Eliza b c 1850 from the 1851 census onwards, but it still leaves us with just who is Margaret?

OK can see Samuel/Eliza with nephew Frederick Young in 1901 Canada census b 3rd October 1884, the census indicates the birth of Eliza was 12th November 1850 although her baptism indicates 13th January 1850 Winsley Father William occ Labourer Mother Ann, so we still have the anomaly of a so called son Frederick marrying a Margaret?
