You need to look in records belonging to the USA - the UK doesn't have out-bound passenger lists until 1890. I'm unclear on the percentage coverage of passenger lists for arrivals in the USA in that era - it certainly varies by port.

That was Sarah Jane Dunbar according to freebmd.  Is this the same person?

Did she marry after arriving in the USA?  There is a Sarah Dunbar marriage to Thomas Whittaker in Liverpool June qtr 1880

Sarah Jane Dunbar 1856 - Birkenhead - Wirral - registered - none for 1857 - I wonder if she was born dec 1856 ?

the marriage to Thomas Whittaker 1880 was at Our Lady & St Nicholas & St Anne ,Liverpool

Freebmd shows that birth in the March qtr 1857 so it may well have been a late 1856 birth that was only registered after Christmas

The 1880 marriage  to Whittaker shows her as a 22yr old widow father surname Trainer.  1881 has her born Liverpool so not your Sarah
