Hi Yes that's James on the census. I'm trying to work out if the war records above are him?. I have a photo of him in his uniform and wondered if anyone can tell me if the uniform is the same regiment as above. I'll get me daughter to add it when she comes home.
Zooming in in the badge on the hat its round, but not round due to the 6 points.
There is a point at the top and bottom and 3 points to each side, so a total of 8 points. Then a small circle in the middle. It not really clear but that's the shape.   I did pay for the records I found, but there wasn't anything to say it was him.
Also I have a postcard he sent and it reads real photo on the back, that's another uniform and I put both on a 40's site, and no one knew them post. I know the card was from him, but i don't think they both look alike?
The full uniform one I also have as a very old painted card photo of his face.

Do you have any of those younger children’s birth certificates?

It's not Mddx. Regt.
Is it a crown on the top rather than a point as it could be Army Service Corps (ASC).If it is a point Cheshire Regt. possibly.

I could order the certificate, but I think it will read he was a hatter. When daughter Mabel went to work in 1915 on the back of her birth certificate there was a work part that James signed and it reads.

living at 19 St Helena Road Rotherhithe, SE, London. Occupation. Journeyman Hatter. I don't think it will say, but its worth a try. St Helena is written on the back of the face war photo of James then he is in a small full uniform photo as well.

I was just thinking that if he was a serving soldier in WW1, that would be his occupation.

You've just got me thinking.

I have James daughter called Mabel's birth born 1901 and Daughter Jessie born 1897, and both read dad as a Hatter.
I didn't even think of it until you've said this.
They had a son called John and he died in 1916. I letter from the fellowship was sent to Jessie, and it reads hopefully your husband will be home soon to share your sorrow.

i'll order both, because I've just seen both children died in 1916, its worth a try

John comes up as Sept 1919
Arthur comes up as March 1918 for records

I have a photo of Jessie with all her living children in 1916. There were 3 boys that lived, the 3 boys standing I thought was them.
Doing my tree I found the middle boy was John, so he must have died soon after the photo was taken. The photo has 1916 printed on the front.
The 3rd living boy worked out to be the baby on a lap.

I've found out so much, and everyone on here has helped me in finding them.
