Birth records Rutland County Vermont
« on: Tuesday 17 April 18 13:12 BST (UK) »
Hi folks, I'm trying to find the birth details for a Norman Ames. The closest info I've got is born 1825, Rutland County, Vermont. No town mentioned though.

I understand that birth details are held at town level. So given that I've no more info more precise than county and I don't know Rutland County or Vermont I was hoping someone with local knowledge could help me out. I was going to write to all possible locations - a sort of scatter gun approach but thought possibly a step by step approach might be better.

Just quickly on Google maps I'm seeing Rutland itself, Fair Haven, Poultney, etc, etc but I've no idea if each of these places keep records individually or if they're held in the next 'biggest' town so to speak.

Are there any gambling persons out there with the local knowledge who could suggest a list?

Michael, Liverpool, UK.
Surnames: O'Neil, Beechinor, Ames, Dickers
Locations: Clonakilty, Cashilisky, Fourcuil, Ringroe, Knuckskagh, New York City, Ohio, Canada, Liverpool.

Most, if not all, of these records have been filmed and are available online, although not all records from the early 1800s have survived.

Norman’s name doesn’t come up when I use the search function, but I suggest you browse through the records that are available online through FamilySearch:
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1987653?collectionNameFilter=false

Click on “Browse through ... images”, then on Rutland, and then you can browse records from each town.

Also, a Wikipedia search for each town name will tell you when the town was founded and therefore whether it existed in the 1820s.

Steve

Cheers Steve - that's what I'm after - a list. I'll do the googling and see if I can narrow it down any. It's always irked me that I've not got anything so far given the unusual(ish) first name Norman.
