Help with maiden surname please
« on: Tuesday 17 April 18 13:45 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone.

Is anyone able to help me to decipher the maiden name on this snippet?

I won't give my suggestions in case I influence anyone, but I am stumped, and have tried searching Scotland's People with names I think it could be, but without luck.

Thanks in advance.

Sue

Thankyou, ShaunJ and josey; it's definitely Croy, as Jamjar has confirmed.

I thought that was it, but as the name is unfamiliar to me, I was doubting it. By stumbling around Family Search, I found a son born in 1865 (Thomas), just after reading about the wonders of the 1865 Scottish certificates, which have so much more information than other years, so that was a great find. Does anyone know why the additional information only seems to have been collected for that one year?

Jamjar, thank you so much. I tried searching Scotland's People for the marriage that you have given me, and it doesn't come up, but did find it under Proclamations and Marriages, so I have that image. Should have thought of searching for Ker ... May I ask where your info is from?

I am sure that is their daughter, too, and I will investigate further. I had seen that and squirreled it away to review properly. Many, many thanks.

I was so excited to find that Elizabeth is from the Orkney Islands! I don't know why exactly, but I guess I am hoping that there will be strong family connections on the islands. And I think there is a viking connection ...  ;)

I got it from Scotlandspeople

For the marriage just select church registers, banns and marriages, search as Croy, Female, All, Leith.

Thank you, Jamjar, that is the one I'd found; I confused myself with the reference numbers.

Many thanks
