His year of birth is more likely 1835, going by his attetatiion and death.  I don't think the age at entry at his attestation would be a problem if over 16 ro more.

The Joseph Cauldrey of Sandford, is still there, all through the census returns. He dies 1918, Abingdon.
If the one born Besselsleigh, is not same the one born Sandford, then that could be him.
But his father was given as William, at his marriage. But, only a transcript to go by, not the original.  I've had a few glaring errors on marriage certs in recent days, so I cannot be 100%  sure what it really says on his marriage cert. ::)

William Coldery and Sarah nee Stimpson have a son George of right sort of age, he is on 1841 and 1851 census, but can't find him after that. Did George change his name to Joseph and join the army?

Who knows. ;D ;D

Could he have been baptised George Joseph Coldrey, and dropped the George. Not sure why he needed to change his name, as he was an adult.  But it has been known.!

Thanks Lizzie.

Well, I've bitten the bullet.  I've ordered the overseas marriage cert, to see exactly what it says. ;D

Hopefully it may reveal something more.

Hi Steve,

I do have the baptisms for his children, the last one being in Aldershot, in 1865.

There is another baptism 15-9-1867 Susan (born 5-9-1867 Fermery??) d/o Joseph & Susan.

I would be interested in seeing  the details the marriage cert when received - will you kindly post them?

I'll send a PM

Of Course, will post the details for sure.  If it pans out, then I guess I'll need more help going forwards.......or should that be backwards. ;D ;D

I have all the baptisms for the girls, and it's Fermoy, Cork for Susan, Newbridge for Ann Jane, but born County  Kildare, and Sarah in Aldershot.  :)

Mother Susan dies Woolwich, 11 Oct 1898.

Well.  The marriage request for the overseas marriages bore no fruit.  Money refunded by the GRO. ::)

I hope I have better luck at the Irish GRO in Roscommon Town. At least I'll be told a lot quicker if the marriage cert is available or not. Oh, and cheaper of course if it is.  I'm 20 minutes away from there, so next week I'll find out.
