Birth and parents for William Ridley c1778
« on: Thursday 19 April 18 09:39 BST (UK) »
Morning, Please could someone help with a bap and parents for William Ridley born 1777/8.

1841 William Ridley, 63, Ag Lab
         Mary     "        65, Wife
         Robert  "       29
         William   "       13
Isabella  "        26 (Had a problem remembering her age!!!)
All born NBL.

1851 William Ridley, 73 Pauper ex Ag Lab born Warden
         Mary    "        75, born Kirkwhelpington
         Isabela  " Dau 48,  "        "
Robert   "  Son 34, St Johnley (St John Lee?)

Married Mary Codling 1802 Kirkwhelpington.
Bap 1802 Joseph at Kirkwhelpington
Bap 1806 Elizabeth at "
Bap 1807   Mary            "
All three bap give Willem "of Heydon" and Mary of this parish.

BT's for Warden and Heydon Bridge are l missing crucial years and I can't find him there.

There is a Joseph and Elizabeth Ridley bap children in Heydon Bridge in the right time.
Mathew 1773
Elizabeth 1776
Joseph 1781

I think the chances are reasonably good that this could be his parents as William and Mary name their children quiet strictly in a naming pattern. eg

Joseph 1802 - his father ????
Isabel   1803 - her mother
Elizabeth 1805 - his mother ????
Mary 1807 - mother
Codling 1809 - mothers maiden name
Mark 1811 - mothers father
William 1813 - father
Mary 1815
Mathew 1815
Ann      1818
Robert  1819
Jane      1820
John     1821 - well used family name

Thanks in advance.

Catherine

I note the records you mention for Josephs children at Haydon are on freereg plus two more daughters.

The records for Warden are also on freereg for the period but William is not among them.

Hi Colin, Thanks for the reply - Not sure of the source for freereg, but the bt's on family search have the following missing:-
Heydon Brigde - bap 1778 missing
Warden - bap 1777 missing

If the bap year is missing on bt's - what are other options to find the information?

Thanks

Thanks Trish, I had seen that marriage - but what happened to William?
I have just gone through freereg again and he really is not there.

Of the three Ridley families in Warden and Heydon Bridge bap children in the correct time span:-
Father's names:  Thomas , Joseph and William - (I still like the Joseph) but no son William bap to any of them !!!!!

I will have to admit defeat on this!?!?

Generally speaking the records for Northumberland on freereg have been taken from the BTs, not the PRs, so a year missing on one will mean a year missing on the other.

I will be at Woodhorn on Wednesday and can check out the missing years for you - see if he's there.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I couldn't find your William in 1777 or 1778 in Warden or Haydon Bridge  :'(  Warden records were beautifully written and easy to read - Haydon Bridge were scribbled and all over the place so I resorted to double checking with an old transcription which they have on the book shelves - no sign of him.

It certainly looks as if he would fit nicely into the gap between 1776 and 1781 but perhaps, for some reason, baptised elsewhere.  The problem with Ag. Labs. is that they moved around with work so his father could have been in a different parish when he was born.
