Amelia Wilson born 1871 Darlington County Durham.
« on: Thursday 19 April 18 14:31 BST (UK) »
I have come to a halt in my research for the above lady.  Amelia was born to William Wilson and Barbara Jane Crawford 4th July, 1871 and baptised 5th October, 1873 in Darlington.  At home with her parents and siblings  in 1881 at Auckland Park Grange Hill, 1891 finds her in Trinity Street, Darlington as a domestic servant - Nursemaid. age 19.  I have looked for a marriage - there is one to a William Wilson in 1895, but can find no trace of a William and Amelia in 1901 or 1911.  Have tried Ancestry, Find my past and family search...any ideas where I might look next?  Elizabeth

Normally I would expect to see four names on a marriage entry on freebmd.   There are only two on that entry in 1895 so maybe they did not marry each other?

That's interesting, I thought if there were only 2 names you were in luck and they were a couple.
I've seen various amounts of names on BMD making it more difficult to know who belonged to who!

Anyway you could risk getting the marriage and hope it had the right father or as parents are alive in 1911 have you checked how many children are still alive?  That might rule out if Amelia had passed away or not  :)

I think I will have to take a chance and order the marriage certificate and hope I am lucky.  Both parents were alive in 1911 and state 13 children - 8 living 5 died.  I have all of the children and have traced those who died.  Amelia is the last piece of the puzzle.
Thanks anyway.  Elizabeth

Ah that's something then you know she was still alive in 1911  :)

There's always one that proves elusive.  Fingers crossed the marriage is for her.

At that time it was four names.  Earlier it was more.  At least I am fairly sure that was the case and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
If you do get the certificate then just give her name - not a spouse.  Otherwise it will be a problem if it is not the right one.

A search on the Durham Registrar's site indicates that an Amelia Wilson did indeed marry a William Wilson in 1895  :)

William and Amelia in 1892 are incoming on a ship, he was a steward so perhaps the reasons you cant find them are due to he/them working on board somewhere? oh they have a baby called Lillian with them too
