It's frustrating not to find the exact link.

Another possible sibling/relative of Elizabeth is Sarah Cheesborough who in 1851 is in service at a boys' boarding school in Bishopwearmouth (The Grange) - she's 28 b Brompton, Yorkshire.

Sarah was Elizabeth's sister, baptised on the 9th March 1821 in Brompton, daughter of Joseph and Mary Cheesebrough.

As she is the only 'unaccounted for' sibling, it is possible that she is Mary Ann's mother.

There may be a small clue with the naming of Mary Ann's children too, just prior to the birth of Robert Walker Ridley, (named for her uncle) she had a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, born on the 10th April 1882.
It would seem to me that she has named this infant after her mother and her aunt, who almost certainly brought her up.

Can't find Sarah marriages to either Robert Rain or William Downing, but there are these births :

Question is, if Mary Ann was Sarahs daughter, and was born some time between Sarah Hannah Rain and Joseph William Rain, would she not be a Rain rather than a Cheesbrough.
