The Mary Ann Cheeseburn, born Newcastle 1859 mmn Walton.

Age would tie in with the 11 year old Mary Ann in 1871 census. Would mean she married aged 14 but that wasn't illegal then.

This Mary Ann has 2 younger siblings, same mothers maiden name, who die in infancy.

Death notices in the Newcastle Guardian :

14 June 1862.
At New Road on the 11th inst, Joseph, infant son of Mr Renwick Cheeseburn, Cordwainer.

1 Dec 1866.
At Cowgate on 20th ult, age 4, Margaret, daughter of Mr. Renwick Cheeseburn.

Renwick Cheesebrough, baptized 23 June 1827 Brompton, son of Joseph and Mary Cheesebrough, so a brother of Elizabeth, Sarah etc. Mary Ann names one of hers sons Renwick Ridley.

Right occupation for being Mary Anns father.
Do you have a photocopy of the original Marriage Cert or a hand written copy? Wouldn't take much untidy writing for Renwick to look a bit like Benjamin.

This looks to be him in 1851 :

Back Row, Newcastle St. John,
Reney Chesebroth, lodger, 22, unm, Shoemaker, b. Yorkshire, Brunton,
HO107/2406/56/13

Can't find him in 1861 or any other census, or his marriage to Ms Walton.

There is a death of a William Renwick Cheesbrough, Lanchester 1895, age 68. If that's him then maybe he preferred to go by the name William.

Alan.
Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,
Ireland - Collins

Hi

Wow!! Well done - excellent work!!

I do have a copy of Mary Ann's marriage certificate to John William Ridley, and, her father's name does look like Benjamin - there is a definite 'j'.

However, it is very indistinct, and the more you look at it, the more the 'B' looks like an 'R'

Am over the moon with the quality of research from you all - thanks so much

Sue
