Mary Cheeseborrow (Cheeseborrow)
« on: Thursday 19 April 18 15:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

Looking for evidence of Mary prior to her marriage to John William Ridley. She married him in Sunderland in 1873 (I have the marriage certificate).

She gives her age as 19 years and her father as Benjamin Cheeseborrow (Cheesebrough), a shoemaker.
She doesn't indicate that he is deceased.
Her address is given as 'White House Farm.' On every census after her marriage she says she was born in Newcastle.
Just cannot find her, or Benjamin, prior to this date.

Thanks

Sue

There is a White House Farm in Bishopwearmouth in 1871
RG10/5008  65/14
I think John William Ridley was in Bishopwearmouth in 1971.
Occupants include a Robert and Rebecca Walker
and a Benjamin and Susan Walker
I did find a Mary Ann Cheesborah living with a Robert and Elizabeth Walker as niece in 1871 her age looks like 11 though in the right area.
Sorry don t think that helps much really

This does look worth following up.

Robert & Elizabeth Walker had many children, including a Robert b abt 1827 Appleton Wiske, Yorkshire.

By 1871:

Robert snr (widowed) and some of his children are at White House Farm, Bishopwearmouth.
Robert jnr (married to an Elizabeth) is elsewhere in Bishopwearmouth, with "niece" Mary Ann Cheesborah, 11 b Northumberland.

Not found the link but it does look promising (even though Mary Ann is alarmingly young, if accurate).

Another thing that ties the Walker and Cheeseborough's together is that Mary Ann named one of her children Robert Walker Ridley (born 3rd January 1885)

Elizabeth wife of Robert Walker snr may have had maiden name Ridley (per birth reg of daughter Martha Walker, Sep qtr 1839 Sunderland).

Added: mmn is shown as Ridley also on the Sunderland birth registrations of sons Joseph (Mar qtr 1842) and Benjamin (Dec qtr 1845).
