Nellie may have died as Ellen A Goodwin aged 84, Mar qtr 1957 Lewisham - though it is not particularly local to earlier sightings of them.

His CWGC record (death 11.08.1943) shows him as “son of John Charles and Nellie Goodwin; husband of Mabel Alice Goodwin, of Worcester Park, Surrey”.

His birthdate was 30.10.1902 according to the index of overseas deaths.  He is shown as “missing - death on war service presumed” (H.M.S. Parthian, which was a submarine).

I am beginning to wonder if John Charles Goodwin was ever  registered as a Goodwin, he might well be miss transcribed somewhere

Somersham comes under St Ives, I have looked for births between 1865 and 1875 St Ives reg dist and only found sons born to Benjamin and Sarah Ann Herbert, none John Charles

I notice that, oddly, the son b 1902 (who in other records was John Charles Goodwin) was recorded at baptism as John Childs Goodwin, son of John (a stableman) and Nellie, of 47 North St, N.

Baptism was 6 November 1902 at St Mark, Marylebone (Queen Charlotte’s Hospital).

Birth reg: John Charles Goodwin, mmn Burgess, Dec qtr 1902 Marylebone.
