J B Yeats and Susan L Mitchell(Langstaff)
« on: Sunday 22 April 18 09:49 BST (UK) »
Dear people of Sligo. I am Shane from Christchurch New Zealand.
For may years now I have owned a Shakespeare's Birthday Book containing some 900 autographs, Belonging once to Surgeon/ Dr Thomas Leslie Crooke 1861-1943. His paremts orignated from Birr County Offaly.
His brother George Douglas Crooke was once secretly engaged to Poet Susan L Mitchell born Dec 05 1866 and both autographed the book. George a military man died in a war.
I am unable to find a photo I can use of Susan as I piece their lives together.
Now I am led to belove that a Portrait of Susan Langstaff Mitchell is hanging in The Model/Mall in Sligo painted by J B Yeats when Susan lived with them.

I would like to know if some kind person could take a photo for me and send via e mail. I will make acknowlegement of this should I get a book published on Dr Crooke's life.

Thank you and kind regards. Shane Patrick Duffy.

Hello Shane,

Would it not be best to contact The Model http://themodel.ie as there may be copyright issues with photographing/publishing.
There may be options via the gallery.
Regards
Heywood

Thank you Heywood Sadly I sent an e mail and never got a reply back. If a painting is displayed in public I'm sure any one is allowed to to take a photo of it just like a building or something else. I tried to contact  Hilary Pyle via publisher as she wrote a book named "The Red Headed Rebel" but also got no reply back.

Susan L Mitchell (1899), by John Butler Yeats (Courtesy of the National Gallery of Ireland)

so maybe they can give permission??
The paintings are no longer in The National Gallery of Ireland but hang in the Model Mall Sligo.
