Hosmer/Wyatt
« on: Monday 23 April 18 13:32 BST (UK) »
Help! I have traced (with some accuracy I think) back to Alice Hosmer b.1597 Rotherfield, Sussex. Then to Thomas Hosmer 1520-1554. Somehow attempting to find more records Thomas Hosmer becomes Thomas Wyatt of rebellion fame. Anyone able to assist me ?

Hi,
My ancestry traces back through Alice Hosmer (1596 - ) to George Hosmer (c1561 - 1634) and then to Thomas Hosmer who died on 9 December 1580 in Rotherfield. Thomas's nuncupative will is dated 3 December 1580.
This is quite complex as there seem to have been two, possibly three, Thomas Hosmers alive in Rotherfield at the same time.
Getting "Hosmer wills" from the Sussex Family History Group helped to sort this out for me.
I haven't been able to go any further back although, anecdotally, this Thomas's father may also have been Thomas.
However my point in replying is to say that the connection with Thomas Wyatt is a total red herring. It crops up in several places but seems to be derived from one erroneous document and the copied around as these things can be until it becomes widespread. There can be no truth in it, as you can easily see if you look up the life story of the "real" Thomas Wyatt.
