Good evening
I am trying to trace my maternal great grandfather’s family from
Dublin bit have hit a brick wall with regards to his parents.
My great grandfather is William Byrne, born 16 Oct 1895 in South Dublin (19 Great Ship St).
His parents (which I have the names from his baptism certificate) are John Byrne and Margaret Daly. This is the only information I can find on them. In particular I am trying to find a birth or marriage record for them.
John and Margaret had the following children:
William - 18/11/1881 (I believe he died in infancy but haven’t yet located his death info)
Celia - 24/10/1883
Bernard Leo - 20/02/1893
John Christopher - 16/12/1886
Robert - 27/06/1889
William - 16/10/1895
I have found them on the 1911 census.
I have also possibly found another’s daughter Cath Mary - 01/06/1877 who also may have died in infancy. She’s not in any census but her baptism certificate shows her at the same address.
I have found another baptism record for another Robert, which states his date of birth to be 13/08/79. Again at the same address.
Possibly renaming my great grandad William and his brother Robert after the children they lost maybe?? Was this a common thing to do?
Godparents and present at birth names on the children’s certificates include the names: Anne Byrne (present at birth), Sarah Byrne, Robert Daly, Mary Farrell, Michael Fanning, Norah Daly (present at birth), James Kelly, Mary Grey, Pat Fanning.
Any help would be appreciated in finding any family relating to John or Margaret.
Many thanks
